Everyone is familiar with IQ (“Intelligence Quotient”) but not as familiar with the equally important EQ (“Emotional Quotient”) better known as EI (“Emotional Intelligence”). Young Lawyers tend to be so focused on mastering the substantive part of lawyering that they often ignore the emotional aspects such as fear, pride, jealousy, passion, or revenge that could lead to sanctions, getting fired, or ethical violations filed against them. This program will help young lawyers and law students uncover the tangible benefits of increasing one’s emotional intelligence to perform better and improve working relationships. Specifically, attendees will leave this program with:
- An understanding of Emotional Intelligence and Emotional Perception and why they are important for young lawyers and law students to help improve your mental and physical well-being, and ultimately your relationships with colleagues, clients, opposing counsel, and judges.
- Information on how increased Emotional Perception can help you in your career, leadership development, and self-advocacy (e.g., by improving your relationship with classmates, professors, coworkers, clients, opposing counsel, and judges, you might just get that A, win the case, or gain a new client, or make partner).
- Specific ways to increase Emotional Perception to help manage stress, be more resilient, and improve problem-solving skills.
